BBQ
This year's Bray Lions Club Barbeque was held in aid of The Martin Codyre Fund. It took place on the 26th July in the Sailing Club in Bray.
Book Sale
Each year in May sees the book sale in Holy Redeemer Church. Weather permitting, the book sale takes place in front of the church as well as in the ambulatory of the church proper. There are books to suit all ages and tastes, and most of the books are almost new, from the most popular of writers.
Bottles in Pubs
Bottles are placed in local pubs and hotels to raise funds for Bray Lions Club's charitable projects.
Bray Clean Sweep
Bray Lions Club have been running this project since 2005. Boys and girls from St Cronan's and St Patrick's Schools are encouraged to volunteer to help make Bray a cleaner place by collecting litter from the streets of Bray with Bray Lions Club members. The Bray Sea Scouts take part in this event by cleaning the River Dargle. Over the past few years, nearly 10 tonnes of litter has been collected from around the town.
This event is kindly sponsored by Greenstar.
Chernobyl Children's Project
For the past 14 years, Bray Lions Club has been bringing children from the city of Mozyr in Belarus that was badly affected by the Chernobyl disaster. These children are hosted with families in Bray each year, where they experience good food, fresh air and rest and relaxation.
Christmas Food Appeal
In December, you will find Bray Lions collecting food and subscriptions at Tesco and Superquinn for Christmas Hampers which are distributed to those in need in Bray with the help of local St Vincent de Paul volunteers.
Circus Visit
Each year, the Bray Lions Club joins forces with Dun Laoghaire Lions Club to bring a group of deserving children from local schools to Fossett's Circus.
Currach Raffle
Bray Lions Club joined forces with the Galway Lions Club in a project to coincide with the Volvo Ocean Race stop-over in Galway.
We organised a raffle for a currach in aid of the H.R. Youth Club in Bray and the Ábalta School for Children with Autism in Galway.
The winner was Fr. Gerry Galvin, Carmelite House, Dublin 2.
Dance Marathon for Children's Hospitals
Over the past few years, a set dance marathon has been run in conjunction with the North Wicklow Set Dancers during the summer months to raise much needed funds for Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Crumlin.
District Governor's Spouse's Appeal
Each year, the District Governor's Spouse launches an appeal for his/her chosen charity and the Bray Lions Club supports this appeal.
Diabetes Screening
A free diabetes screening service is run by the Bray Lions a number of times during the year. These screenings are usually run in Tesco Bray, and members of the public are screened by volunteer nurses with instant results. The process involves a tiny pin-prick to the finger, and the patient is given their blood-sugar level. On average 250 people take part in each screening, and we refer about 3% to GP services.
Dream Auction
Our Dream Auction has been each October since 2006. This has been a very well supported fund-raising event, and one where lots of bargains are always eagerly snapped up. Over the last few years we have had many unusual auction items including a 5000-word memoir/biography written by a journalist, dinner for 8 cooked in your house by a professional chef, and a day power-boating !!
Drug Awareness
Bray Drugs Awareness Forum is supported and funded by Bray Local Drugs Task Force and includes reps from Bray Town Council, the Gardai, Bray Youth Service, Bray Lions Club and other Community Groups.
The main focus of the Forum and Drug Awareness Month is to raise an awareness around drugs and drug related issues that affect local young people and the wider community of Bray.
Family Fun Day
Over the last number of years, the Bray Lions Club have held a Family Fun Day on the seafront. The activities included face-painting, fortune-telling, children's novelty races and sports activities.

Golf Outing
Bray Lions Club have been running this event since 1989 and to date have raised in excess of €250,000 in sponsorship. Since 1991, the event has been a Fourball Scramble and we have found it to be the most enjoyable. This is witnessed by the fact that the same smiling faces turn up year after year.
We would like to thank all those you have supported this event throughout the years. Your support is genuinely appreciated and the funds raised from this allow us to carry out much of our good work throughout the year.
This year's event was on the 18th June in Delgany Golf Club.
Ladies Mini-Marathon
Each year, family and friends of the Bray Lions Club take part in the Flora Women's Mini-Marathon in Dublin to help raise funds for the club.

Mambo Race
In recent years, Bray Lions Club and Bray Sea Scouts have organised a fun canoe race for the all ages on the River Dargle. This year's race was on the 27th June and over 70 canoeists took part.
New Year's Day Swim
For over 20 years, the New Year's Day Swim has taken place in Bray raising much needed funds for a wide variety of local charities.
PAWS (Youth Project)
The PAWS Project (Promoting Awareness, Working & Supporting Bray Lions Club) has been in operation for a number of years. It aims to help the young people to help their community by getting involved and helping the Bray Lions with a number of projects, including the Clean Sweep of Bray.
Peace Poster
The International Peace Poster Competition is an event run by Lions Clubs across the world in October each year. Bray Lions run a regional competition among local primary schools, with a prize-giving night in the Heather House Hotel. Winning entries are forwarded to district level and if successful, they go on to the international final.
The overall winner of this year's Bray Lions Competition was Sean Dave A. Batutay from St Cronan's BNS.
School Books for Liberia
Bray Lions Club responds to international causes when the need arises. In October 2006, with the help of the young volunteers of the PAWS Project filled a conatiner of school books and shipped it to Liberia dur to an appeal made by the Irish Army.
School Debating
For many years, the Bray Lions Club has run a debating competition among local secondary schools.
Secondary school debating teams are invited to compete in the Pat Cassidy Memorial Debate which is held annually. The winners of the trophy in 2009 were Loreto College Bray. Details of the 2010 Debating Competition will be available in January next.
Sight First Campaign
Lions Clubs across the world have saved the sight of over 27 million people. Bray Lions Club continues to support this international campaign to end avoidable blindness.
Spectacle Recycling
Throughout the year, Bray Lions Club collects used eyeglasses and delivers them to regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers (LERCs). LERC volunteers clean, sort by prescription strength and package the glasses. Most of the recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact.
Bray Lions have sent thousands of used spectacles to the Third World where they can be used to improve the sight of young and old. If you have a pair to spare, drop them into Bray Library.
St Patrick's Day
Over the past number of years, the Lions have taken part in the St Patrick's Day Parade in Bray to thank the public for their support in the many projects carried out by Bray Lions Club.
In recent years, the Bray Lions Club have also organised shop window displays in conjunction with local primary schools to coincide with the St Patrick's Festival in the town.
Student Grants
Student of the Year
Each year, the Bray Lions Club presents the Student of the Year trophy to worthy students in many of the local secondary schools. The club doesn't participate in the selection, leaving that to the schools. Many of the recipients are awarded the honour not just on the basis of their school-work, but also dur to their commitment in the area of community service.
Tallaght Lions
Since 2008, Bray Lions Club have successfully aided the revival of Tallaght Lions Club. This bright and young club is now a branch club of the Bray Lions.
Trabolgan Senior Citizens Holiday
In June each year, the Bray Lions Club along with Lions clubs across Ireland, bring a group of senior citizens to Trabolgan, Co. Cork for a well deserved holiday. Over 850 senior citizens are brought together by Lions Clubs around Ireland for a week. They enjoy many activities; sing-songs, dancing, swimming and bingo to name but a few, as well as accommodation, full board and transport.

Lets Get Bray Working
In July '09, Bray Lions Club hosted a public action meeting with the purpose of creating a forum for the people of Bray to discuss ways in which industry could be boosted and jobs could be created and retained locally.
Young Ambassador
Every year, Bray Lions selects its Young Ambassador who represents the Club at further stages of this multi-national competition. Young men and women, who will be aged 19 or under in June 2010 are eligible to enter the 2009 competition. Ideally they should be involved in community or charity work and be good communicators. Attractive prizes and travel opportunities are available to winners.
